It’s hard to believe that we’re almost to the finish line of our hair journey but here we are. We’ve covered a lot of information in these videos and today is yet another important step to discovering our hair identity. Thinking over what we’ve covered thus far, I’ve noticed the confidence I’ve been gaining in trying these new methods to care and nourish my hair. And I hope you all have too. It’s important to recognize the hard work and time that you’re investing in understanding your hair. One of the highlights from creating this series has been connecting with you all somehow. I absolutely love reading your comments on my posts, and the messages I receive about your stories. It helps to know that we’re not alone on this journey.

At this point, we’ve covered the ingredients we need in our products, we’ve built out a solid haircare routine and now, we can finally begin to talk about hairstyles. For the last 12 years, I’ve kept to the same rotation of hairstyles like braids, cornrows, wash n’ gos and the occasional box braid extensions. I choose my hairstyles based on the level of effort I want to give my hair. Some days I have the energy to spend hours braiding and crocheting in extensions. Others, I want to be done in 20 minutes or less with a quick wash n’ go. But one issue I have recently noticed is how quickly my hairstyles dry up. When I think back to a few years ago, I remember how my hair would stay moisturized throughout the week with the small number of products that I used. Now, I’m lucky if my curls stay bouncy and fresh after two days. However, when I factor in the different places I’ve lived over the years and the changes in my diet, activities or in the weather, they all contribute to my hair having different needs. So, in addition to talking about compatibility, I thought it would be worthwhile to mention some styling methods and tips on how we can get the most out of our hairstyles and hopefully make them last longer. Remember this is a holistic hair journey and these style insights are yet another way to build out a full and healthy haircare routine that’s made for you.
