About Aida
Aida Solomon is an award-winning multimedia journalist whose career spans over eight years and two continents. Originating from Seattle, Washington, Aida graduated from the University of Washington with an honors degree in Communications and Journalism. She completed an honors thesis titled, “What’s in a Name? Understanding the Racial and Ethnic Labels Among People of African Descent,” which awarded her the department’s Jody Deering Nyquist Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. At the same time, Aida's journalistic work at the Seattle Globalist awarded her Apprentice of the Year in 2014 for her enthralling video series, "I AM ETHIOPIA."
Shortly after graduating from the University of Washington, Aida moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and established the first digital marketing department, at Cactus Communications. As director of this department, she was responsible for developing digital marketing solutions and localizing global campaigns to speak to the Ethiopian audience. She worked with international clients like Huawei, Heineken, Unilever, and Coca-Cola.
Upon moving back to the states in 2018, Aida has been working as a digital marketing consultant and freelance writer. Her work can more recently be seen for publications such as 21Ninety and Travel Noire.
